Caprica apparently has a green light even as we speak. There's not a lot of news out there about it at this time as everyone's focus has been on S4 and the yet to be made movie(s). I'm searching everyday and rest assured, if it shows up on the web...we'll find it and post it!

According to sources, we owe Caprica's forward motion to the writers strike. In a time period when Hollywood shut down, Caprica was bumped up as it was already written and ready to go. No one knew how long the strike was going to last so it was a way to get something new out there when no one else would.

Casting has commenced and there are a few seasoned actors on board. Esai Morales will be portraying the patriarch Joseph Adama. Many people will remember Morales as Lt. Tony Rodriguez from "NYPD Blue." Daniel Graystone (the creator of the Cylons) will be portrayed by Eric Stolz of "Mask" and "Anaconda" fame.

At this time, the biggest issue with Caprica is the worry of doing the pilot and leaving it hang for several months while shooting occurs. They're worried that it will not have the same buzz as BSG and that viewers will lose interest after the pilot airs while they shoot the series. The long time lapse between the pilot and the series premiere would also be due to the production of the new movies and webisodes.

Either way it looks like there will be plenty of BSG to come! Please check out SyFyPortal.com's story at http://www.syfyportal.com/pagetogether.php?id=5059&page=1

Thanx for the update A-dog Smiley

As I said in another thread, I just hope Caprica doesnt end up being a "Bold and the Beautiful of BSG"

I'm sure after such a phenomenal and revolutionary series like BSG, Caprica will have to disappoint.

I mean, BSG had it all, drama, action, politics, religion, history, love, sillyness, war, kick ass sci-fi space scenes.

Caprica looks like will only have some of these elements, and I wonder just how often if at all we'll get to see a Raptor flying around, or anything for that matter.

I'm going to try not to cast judgement on Caprica until more info gets out... I'm being cautiously optimistic at this point!

We'll just have to have faith that RDM and Eick will really use this series to it's potential and it's true calling...that being a precursor and information delegate for BSG.

I gotta believe that they will not want to put out just any old thing to get it out there...in the BSG world, after all "this has happened before and will again."  Grin

I agree... looking at how stellar BSG is it's hard to believe that Caprica will be some kind of "epic fail"... I predict good things!  Grin

I wish I shared your optimism. But BSG put the bar so high, and they stated it themselves, Caprica is not going to be all war, action and death. It's all about family politics.

I guess lets not shoot it down before it has taken off eh? Tongue

I have to agree with Adalla. BSG has set such a high bar for this show. Still I want to give a chance b4 I make an opinion. One thing I keep hearing though, is that Capica will be the BSG version of The Wire. Sounds promising.

Well I meant that while, yes it will be missing some elements, the writing has always been solid.  It doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be boring if it's not all about war and death.  Personally, I am very interested to see the family politics of Caprica... I think they way they portray it is very cool on BSG.

There will still be many familiar aspects in the series though...slang, architecture and the fore-knowledge of how the most subtle thing that happens will impact the future. It's the slight nuances that RDM and Co. will build in that will keep the series fresh...I hope... Tongue

The thing I look most foreword to seeing is Caprican society itself. The interesting thing to me is to finally see what was actually destroyed before the bombs fell. I also hope we get to see some sort of interaction with the other colonies. A civil war type conflict would be awesome. Imagine the Pegasus shown down, except this time Starbuck doesn't jump in stop the fighting. I'm getting excited just thinking about the possibility.

In many interviews and posts I've seen and heard where members of the BSG cast  are getting to see the dailies of Caprica. They seem pretty psyched about it ...so I have to have faith in those folks...after all, who knows BSG better than people like EJO or Mary McDonnell?
