If you have been visiting BSG9 in the past year or so you will have noticed that news announcements have slowed, our roster has shrunk and our activity on our Game Warden forum is practically non-existant. I wanted to take this opportunity to briefly explain what is going on with BSG9.

BSG9 was founded upon the release of the Beyond the Red Line demo as its founder (me) was not able to find any BtRL gaming clan that suited what he was looking for. Within a 40 days or so we grew at about 1 new member every day and within 2 months we grew to be the biggest Battlestar Galactica gaming clan supporting Beyond the Red Line. However with time our club activity decreased and our active membership shrunk. There is one primary reason for this and that is the fact that Beyond the Red Line developments and patch releases proved to be disappointing. To date since the release of the demo over a year and a half ago only 2 patches have been released and neither provided new material nor the most important bug fix that pleagued the multi-player gaming matches, which was lag. The host has a huge advantage in gaming matches while clients who join the hosts game lagged. If you had a 2% accuracy rate you were an ace. What this meant was that you spent practically the entire time firing bullets that would make contact with your target but due to lag never registered a hit. Apparently only 8 rounds are required to down a Raider though i personally have been in matches where i fired perhaps 10 seconds straight hearing the hits on the enemy ship but none of the hundreds of fired rounds registered as hits. What this led to was endless circling matches that got boring all too soon. Fans tried to build custom missions and campaigns to make the gamplay more interesting in the 18 or so months since the demo release, however due to the lack of new ships there was only so much you could do with a mission only having Vipers and Raiders. Thus, it is with no surprise that slowly but surely the BtRL community started to crumble and one BtRL gaming clan after another started dying starting with the biggest rival to BSG9, the Cylon Base which boasted a great number of members also.

Thus it is that i inform you that BSG9 is practically abandoned until the release of new content and the fix of the multiplayer net code. The BtRL Dev Team unfortunately has possibly one of the worst relationships with their fans, bashing them on a regualar basis and never giving any updates or answering simple questions with respect, like every other gaming mod team out there. Since the Devs dont like us asking questions and dont respect the fans, and since there are not other decent BSG games out there, it is with inevitability that I announce that BSG9 is on a sort of "pause" until further notice.

To all BSG9 Members and visitors, please proceed to BSG Pilots as our new home to keep in touch until new content is release for BtRL and other BSG mods and games.

BSG Pilots had started as the hub for organizing BtRL multiplayer matches but evolved since then into one of the premiere Battlestar Galactica fan sites. In fact, if we had relied solely on BtRL BSG Pilots would have been dead like BSG9. But we had the good sense to transform BSG Pilots into much more than a BtRL multi-player meeting place, and now in fact the gaming aspect of BSG Pilots has become secondary where as our Battlestar Galactica news, media and discussions have taken over. I invite you all to join BSG Pilots, and may the glorious 9th Battlestar Group resurrect one day.

Until then, proceed to bsgpilots.com

Long live the 9th Battlestar Group! So Say We All!

Commander,
9th Battlestar Group

Finally, a date has been set for the premiere of Season 4 of Battlestar Galactica. The date, both on the SciFi Channel (US) and SPACE channel (Canada) will air in April 4th at 10ET/9C.

Also, another great news, Season 3 of BSG will be released on DVD on March 18th, with extra footage never seen before! March and April will be great months for BSG9 and BSG fans all over the world.

Greetings BSG9 Visitors!

Our mighty BSG gaming club continues to grow and improve day by day. We are now up to 42 members though not all of them are active at the moment. BSG9 staff continue to add features to the BSG9 website to make our members' experience even better. Our most recent feature is the addition of a flash chat that allows for unlimited number of permanent or temporary rooms, public and private. The best part of this new system, is that members who browse our message boards can see who is in chat at that time. We have called this chat our Launch Tube chat, and it looks a lot better than our IRC channel, and it's easier to use, since all you need is registration with our forums to gain access to it. You don't have to login each time like you do with IRC, and select servers and channels.

Our Chain of Command is also being filled. Recently, Lieutenant HunterB has been promoted to Eclipse Squadron Leader, Lieutenant Seraph has been promoted to Chimaera Squadron Leader and Lieutenant Spix to Chimaera Executive Officer. Captains Foo and Twigs are now permanently Battlestar Hyperion Commander and CAG. So congratulations to all our newest leaders. Without them, our club would not be where it is at. It is their contributions and dedication that is allowing us to work as a team to improve our club.

Last but not least, I would like to announce the creation of BSG Pilots, a website that is intended to be a neutral meeting point for all BSG multi-player gaming action. BSG9 officers have founded BSGP, however, we intend to eventually include people from other clubs (and even those without clubs) into our staff. We are hoping that BSG Pilots will become the main location for BSG pilots to meet and fly. To visit BSG Pilots click here.

Before I end this news update, I want to remind everybody that the Beyond the Red Line crew is about to release a patch for the demo that will add new features. At BSG9, we are all terribly excited and cannot wait to see what the Devs will reveal to us this time.

*S* all,

The 9th Battlestar Group has come a long way since our founding, on April 13th. We are 40 days old, and if someone saw our club 4 weeks ago, I doubt they'd think it was the same club. In 40 days we have grown by nearly 30 new members. That's almost one new member a day. We have almost two full squadrons, new forums, and the most recent news is that the site automation is nearly complete. In fact, this very news entry that I am typing right now, is being written through the News Admin feature of the new User Control Panel which I have designed for the club. That means I dont have to edit news in html anymore, it is all done automatically through the control panel, which makes things a lot easier. So you'll be seeing news updates a lot more frequently, so be sure to check the site index a lot. I dont want to write an essay, BSG9 members get informed of what is going on with the site on the private forums of our club. But for our visitors and potential new members, the club is very successful, beyond my wildest expectations, we are growing very rapidly, and we are having a blast! I'll be adding new features to make life easier and better for our members all the time, but the first version of our features is pretty much done. A few more days of coding for what we call the Launch Tube, basically a matchmaking feature where our members can see the availability during the week of other members, update their own, see what events are going on all in one place, so that we may find each other more easily and get those fun fun games going.

So stay tuned, and till the next update *S*

Greetings fellow BSG9 visitors!

The 9th Battlestar Group has been operational for 11 days now. And in those 11 days, we have had 10 members enlist and we are close to having 2 full flights in Eclipse Squadron, our first operational unit. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our new members and our first BSG9 promotion and line-officer. Nugget Foo has been promoted to Ensign and given command of Flight 1 in Eclipse Squadron, the first squadron in the Battlestar Hyperion Air Group. I hope to see all of our Nuggets be promoted soon.

We are currently trying to figure out a way to record statistics and find a website to host BtRL inter-club multi-player events. Our first choice is the site www.battlestats.com. Though since BtRL is only a demo, BSC might not support it. So both BSG9 and our fellow rival toaster club, The Cylon Base, are looking at alternatives. We will keep you updated on our progress.

Today the 9th Battlestar Group has been created to support Beyond the Red Line, a Battlestar Galactica PC game in development. Right now only a demo of the game exists, but it has full multiplayer capability and thus it can bring us countless hours of dogfighting joy in a Mark Seven. The website, the comlinks, everything is a work in progress, so please be patient, I'm trying to work as quickly as I can.
